Well, it is a TV show, meaning filtered, screened, not real life, etc.

Besides that, view the factors they used, has little (maybe nothing) to do with actually being friendly as a personality trait.

I dunno, man. I have seen several travel shows where they went to Mongolia (Departures, Long Way Round, Destination Truth, etc), and in every one they take the travelers into a yurt, sit them down and subject them to a feast of the most disgusting offal you can imagine. I don't believe for a second Mongolians would choose to eat this over the rest of the animal, and it always looks to me like they are taking a **** out of the foreigners every time.

Whether the country is named Upper Volta or Burkina Faso, EVERYBODY wants to spend some time in the tourist haven of Ouagadougou.

I can see how Morocco would rank as third friendliest; I went there for about a week and the attention that was lavished upon me (a solo traveler) was amazing. I even stayed with a friend I met on the long-distance overnight bus to Marrakesh. He pleaded with me to extend my stay to attend a family reunion with him while I had to catch a flight back to Spain (in order to fly back home!) He made me promise to visit Morocco again.

The touts there are something else too, but the hospitality of the Moroccans is certainly a characteristic trait.

My personal experience after visiting about 25 countries is that Ireland was by far and away the friendliest and Greece was at the other end of that scale. I found the French delightful. Oz was much friendlier than NZ and Thailand more friendly than Vietnam. Canadians were great when I visited there but awful when we met them abroad traveling (sample size of 4).

I call BS. Every report I read on Iran talks about how friendly the locals are to tourists.

Steaming pile of manure, this survey.
Sure, I've been to both, several times each. I could tell you (cute) stories about my visit to Ouagadougou, in particular. On my "super friendly" list I would have Mongolia (unfriendly?) and Yemen near the top. Portugal isn't a bad choice on the original list.

I don't "think negative", so I don't have an "unfriendly" list.
