Considering volunteering trip to central america, it would be a group of around 10+ people for 2 weeks in rural El Salvador OR Nicaragua. Is it relatively safe when travelling in a group like this to a small village?
What are the benefits of each of these countries and how much would we have to worry about safety, thanks!
Depends on the village. Impossible question to answer. Just take the standard precautions. Groups can work for you or against you depending on the situation.

It depends. Are you a group of 10 people traveling to small Central American towns in order to convert people to your religion? Are you there to educate? Provide medical assistance? Sightsee as tourists? Your safety may depend on your intentions.

It would be one town in either of the countries. To help the people and experience how they live and learn about culture. Before( past years) it was help build foundation for school, build a path to a water pump.
How would those intentions be?
