Hello guys i'm visiting my sister up in Portsmouth, NH and taking a downeaster train to Boston for a day. I was in Boston last year but did mostly sight seeing (USS Constitution, Skyview Observatory) and wanna go to famous eats in the area. I do want to pass by Fenway Park and I've yet to explore the North End. Guys have any suggestions? Thanks!
In and around Quincy Market area should take up half a day of shopping and eating.
Take a walk along the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail
Take a tour on a Duck Boat
I spent one day in Boston many years ago. I swear we spent the whole day going round and round in the inner lane of a roundabout. Eventually I noticed that of all the cars that were circling around it, there was not ONE whole car. Every one was bashed or missing a fender etc. I've always intended to give Boston another chance. We did have an interesting meal at Durgin Park.
Just be sure if you miss the 5 o'clock train back to Portsmouth (The Amtrac) that you know the next one back is after 10. We went to the Northeastern University Graduation and ended up running for that 5 o'clock train. It may be a bit after 5 but the next one is late, but that could be the one that you want. When there is an evening game at the TD Center they hold the train until that game ends.
One think I enjoyed very much on another visit to Boston was the Museum of Fine Art.
There are lots of great little restaurants on Newbury Street.
There at good restaurants in the North End but do a bit of research as a few of them are "iffy"

My suggestion, you won't get a good feel for all of Boston, but take a tour bus, maybe a hop on/hop off or something like that. It will give you an overall view of the city. We always do this when we have just a few hours or a day in a new place. Also be sure and take a little while to see the market place.
