I agree with rational1. I don't know what your home country is, but remember US carriers tend to me more generous with carry-on bag size than others (like most European carriers have smaller allowable dimensions, for instance, that they actually enforce unlike US carriers).
The Patagonia Black Hole 35L is a travel pack. You can carry it on your back, but it's not for long distance trekking at all. What i like about it is that is a carry on, it holds a lot of stuff, esp. if you roll your clothes, and it's water tight. It also looks good.
