im so overwhelmed on trip advisor with choices of hotels. budget would be max 250-300 per night to be split among 3 of us. so that means two queen beds is a must.
which hotels would you recommend? and fun places to eat/do?? help this gal celebrate her 40th in a great way
Is that $250-$300/night your overall spending budget or just for the hotel? If it's the latter, then you definitely don't want to be at Linq/Harrahs/Flamingo/Bally's etc. None of those are memorable hotels or appropriate for a celebratory milestone event. A good choice instead would be Cosmo, Wynn/Encore, or Venetian/Palazzo. Coincidentally, my wife and I both had milestone birthdays this year and we made two trips to celebrate them in LV, including one earlier this month. In both cases, we stayed at Cosmo. BTW, Cosmo is the only strip hotel with rooms that have balconies.
However, if the $250/$300 is your total spending money budget and you're trying to spend as little as possible on the hotel, then I would go with Linq out of the previously recommended choices.
We were there last November and as pp said, many pools will be closed so it's good to double check that. It gets cooler and they prefer people inside gambling than lounging at the pool. If you guys don't offend easily, I would highly recommend seeing Absinthe. It's a great show and currently one of the highest rated in Vegas. As for hotels, Paris, Ceasars, Venetian are all good. As long as you aren't going on Thanksgiving, I'm sure you can find many good deals in November.
looking to go for a weekend at Las Vegas with couple college friends for our 40th birthday, we'd ideally like to stay on or near the strip. will not have a car. not big gamblers, more interested to catch up together, see a show or two and enjoy great cocktails with good food. Pool if weathers warm for that in November.

I've stayed at many of the hotels along the strip over the last twenty years.
The best I can do is break hotels into categories for you.
Cheap category: Excalibur. Its probably the one most designed for families with kids, but the rooms are cheap and its on the Strip.
Average price range: New York, New York, With a roller coaster circling the building and a large replica of the Statue of Liberty. I'd also put the Mirage into this price category. Treasure Island, next door, should also be in this group. Treasure Island is the one with ships that fight the "pirate battle" every hour or two. The Luxor (the black pyramid) would be here too.
Expensive price range: The Venetian (wonderful rooms). Caesar's Palace (the first real mega casino in the city. It has a wonderful mall attached. The MGM Grand. It has changed a lot over the years, but is still a fun place.

How many years has it been since you were last in Vegas? The reason that I ask is that the pirate battle at TI was discontinued several years ago. Moreover, MGM no longer belongs in the "expensive" category. In fact, I don't think that it could ever be considered equal to Venetian. Interestingly, you left off Belagio, which would be a higher-rated, not to mention more expensive, hotel in the MGM family. Wynn/Encore and Cosmopolitan also belong in such a category. MGM is a mid-range property at best these days.

I did some research after I read your post. Of course, you are correct. It looks like TI discontinued the Pirate Battle at the end of 2013. I was in Las Vegas last year, but just assumed that it was still continuing.
I believe Bellagio is the hotel that has the water show out front? It is fancy. It never particularly got my attention though.
Your post does point out the need to constantly update travel information. Lots of things change over the years. Many years ago, the Luxor used to have a boat ride in its basement through simulated Egyptian ruins. Also, many years ago the MGM Grand had a small amusement park connected to it. That's been gone for a long time too.

I'm stubborn as a mule on this one: No balcony, no stay!
Balconies are most rare on the Las Vegas Strip, but if a balcony is important to you, head for the Cosmopolitan. Nice spacious balconies!
So many of the hotels on the Strip have hermetically sealed windows, and you put me in one of those rooms, where I can't even open up a window, and?
