Why? Nobody's forcing you to touch it, open it or read it.

Still creepy. Hotels aren't the place for it. If you want worship, go to a church.

Every hotel in the Middle East I stayed in had a Koran in the bed table drawer. Some even had paper prayer rugs.

Yes, some US hotels still do. (I didn't see any in European hotels, though) For patrons convenience, hospitality. Other items include TV, hair dryer, clothes iron, maps, pens, ice bucket, safe, fridge, coffeemaker etc. You chose what to use...
I noticed that many hotels removed Bibles because they want to be welcoming to all faiths, instead of just one.
However, about 300,000 Gideon's Bibles are still distributed to hotels (the supply seem endless), and the stock is usually replaced every 6 years or so. Used Bibles are then shipped off to prisons.

No one really knows why this tradition is still continued, but the subject of Bibles in hotel rooms is a hot potato no one in hospitality dares to touch

I work at a hotel. truth is here our gidieon bibles are in the storage room still in boxes, with a only a few smattered rooms having one. No one cares of God anymore. God is more like a police car sitting on the side of of a highway- if spotted slow your roll-

for the little its worth, those bibles in the storage room are stacked right next to the boxes of bhagavad gitas ( hindu bibles ). God in whatever form is frequently dismissed

there is irony that in the scriptures there are words printed that literally say that mankind would treat the word of the living god thusly.

Why?

To respond to the OP, I hint this practice has decreased. I've stayed in a few hotels lately that haven't had them.

I remember reading in the past that they were great places to find phone numbers of, um, escorts, should you desire one in your temporary city.

I find it bizarre that they are there, but I don't really care. OTOH, I suspect that many people who like them being there would have problems with, say, the Book of Mabel* being left in the same drawer.

*Mabel is my ornery kitty who died back in 2013. She was kind of a god to me.

LOL. Nah. I'm weird, I always look for the Gideon Bible, I'm not a particularly religious person but I like them. I would have no problem finding the Book of Mabel in the drawer. I'd actually get a kick out of it.

Because it doesn't belong there. Just like it doesn't belong @ a place of work or public schools.

There are a time and place for religion. Hotels aren't one.

Belongs @ a church, not a hotel or any other public place.

Have you ever thought of, I don't know, just not reading it? Leaving it in the drawer. You're not going to burst into flames you know.
