I don't get it. Did something drastic happen in the last 9 or so months?

Last April, we booked a flight from Quito, Ecuador to Dallas for $550 round-trip. It was kind of last-minute too---I think 2 or 3 weeks ahead.

Now I'm trying to book the same flight for a March date and it's over $1,100.

All the websites have the exact same prices too. Why do so many sites even exist?

In March of next year it might get cheap again.

You don't get it because there's nothing to get. Flight prices change. There is no reason to look for an explanation. Deal with it.

There's too many things to get..

Popularity of the flight (How many tickets have been sold/how many are left).. Fuel costs, number of flights to/from destination, time of year, government taxes.. There's a hundred different things that can affect the pricing. Best option.. Look at the price, that's what it is. Make your decision. If it's too high for you. Don't buy the ticket.

And, of course, you MIGHT have gotten really lucky and booked a fat-finger fare last April and because it wasn't unreasonable ($20 per ticket or similar) they just let you get away with it.

I've noticed the same thing. A few months ago I saw oneway flights LAX-Manila for $285 for spring dates, and the other day, there was nothing under about $435.
