My husband and I are planning to visit Paris in mid-September for 1st Anniversary. Opinions on Paris at that time of year? Is it a good time to visit? How is the weather? Any advice or tips?
Museums? Monuments? Restaurants? Of course. I think in Europe, if things close down, it happens in August when everyone has several weeks off and wants to go holiday elsewhere.
I thought it was in August. Just making sure. There are a few places I want to visit, the Monet and Rodin museums are on the top of my list, and I would be sad if they are closed...but the time we are going is intentionally to coincide with the 1st anniversary...so I am trying to have reasonable expectations.
Have been there a few times in Sept, but it was mostly work related. But, good time of year as the 'empty Paris'/month long vacay is over, weather is usually wonderful, and most stuff is open. Net is your friend for some basic info: Things To Do In Paris - September 2012 | Paris Insiders Guide
He means hordes. The Parisians definitely do not hoard tourists.
September sounds like a VERY good idea. Less warm, and the restaurants will be open again (if that's your thing).
Summer in a European capital in general is not a good idea, even though that is when most people end up going. Air con is not as common as the US, prices are up, places are crowded. And sometimes the natives are on vacation. The shoulder seasons are your friends.
Paris is a year-round tourist destination and it will still be crowded. I was there in October this year and there were massvie lines at the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay and Versailles. Buying a Paris Museum Pass is a good idea because it allows you to bypass some of the lines. You still have to line up to go through security, but it's still quicker than regular ticket lines. I was in Paris last year in September. Paris is a year-round destination so you can't avoid crowds, but September shouldn't be too crazy. We had a 5-min wait to get into the Louvre. Temps were warm (t-shirt & shorts), but we did have a slightly cooler/drizzly day (light jacket, umbrella) too.
Fewer people = better picture-taking opportunities (i.e. not fighting for the good spots):
