Can choose to fly Gulf Air Los Angeles - Mumbai and travel east or I can go with Korean Air and fly west out of Los Angeles. I have only been to South America so I don't have any experience on jet lag.. would flying west out of Los Angeles help me cope better with jet lag? It is only a 15 day trip and I don't want it to be ruined by jet lag! The Korean Air flight is 150 dollars more so I don't want to pay that if it won't make a huge difference.
Is it possible that since I operate on very little (average 4 hours of sleep per night) and typically on a very inconsistent sleep cycle that I will notice much less effects than a person with a more consistent sleep pattern?
I know for my trips to NZ and AUS we arrived 1st thing in the morning, got early check in, showered and took a few hours nap then ready to go. We flew from the east coast, stopped in LA to change planes then continued on. I don't remember having too much of a problem coming home. I don't sleep well on planes. I may get 1-2 hrs in a row a few times IF I am lucky. I think my flights from the east coast to Germany hit me harder.

Westbound is better for less jet lag. Always immediately adapt to the CURRENT time zone and activities. You usually don't sleep well when arriving anyway.
When you travel eastbound it is even more important to fit into timezone / eating habits. Eat light, lots of fruits and water, I typically leave Asia at 8AM Friday mornings, fly 19 hrs, arrive west coast USA @ 6AM Friday, then got directly to work for at least 10 hrs. No naps, no snacks. To sleep at midnight and up at 6AM the next day. Seems to work for me. One nice thing is that they say every hour of lost sleep comes off the tail end of your lifespan. That is a GOOD thing, why burn daylight while you are young and healthy?? I am more than willing to give up hours on the tail end. 28 yrs of shift work took many yrs off my life span.
Just dont sleep when you arrive in Asia. When I flew to AUckland I flew MIA-LAX-AKL we arrived into AKL early in the morning but I spent the whole day doing something so that night around 10pm I went right to bed and was adjusted to the time zone in a day.
I find it interesting that you are a world traveler... and in another post you are trying to find a place to park you car for free.
