Would be fun if it weren't for the fever, sore throat, constant coughing (the kind that makes you feel like you're going to throw up) and laryngitis... I haven't been able to sleep more than an hour or so at a stretch, wake up hacking up a lung, so I get online and play games or read trutv.com.

Boy do I ever! It was in the late 1980's. She went in and shot 7 kids in Hubbard Woods School then to a neighboring residence and terrorized them. One of them later argued for a local gun ban. As an aside, her ex-husband owned an insurance agency, which suffered quite a loss in business after the incident.
Haven't seen the movie, though.

I remember the Laurie Dann case. For anyone who is interested in learning more, there was an excellent book written about her. It's called Murder of Innocence: The Tragic Life and Final Rampage of Laurie Dann, the Schoolhouse Killer by Joel Kaplan, George Papajohn and Eric Zorn. It was published in 1991 and is now out of print but is still available at Amazon.

Oh yeah - I live in the chicago metro area. In fact, i think that incident changed some gun control laws here and school security policies. SO so sad for the family.
the hiding of the meat thing got me really creeped out.
Yes, mental illness is stigmatized still, not taken seriously, not understood. I think the insurance companies still have issues with coverage regarding mental illness diagnoses.
I have an old dear friend who died from a long battle with it. I still miss the way she was before she was ill. It is very very sad - she is at peace now though.
Yes, what gets me is when parents are in denial when their little children show psychopathic symptoms... like torturing animals and such, that is NOT normal .... really unbelievable.
