AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP)-- A Superior Court judge shot and killed a masked burglar inside his Augusta home early Friday after being awakened by the sound of someone smashing through a door.

Richmond County Sheriff Ronald Strength said investigators were still searching for a second burglary suspect Friday after the break-in at the home of Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet.

That should be a lesson for ALL burglars: don't burglarize. It may cost you your life. Is it worth it to risk your life just for some material possessions? I don't think so.

Breaking into a judge's house is not the best idea...

The mask indicates that the person knew someone was home and its more likely robbery or worse was the motive.

Too bad all attempted burglaries don't end like this. We'd run out of burglars.

The judge behaved stupidly and is obviously a racist/classist. Why didn't he try to reason with the burgler, find out where he was coming from and empathize with him?

I once knew a home care worker who was taking care of a retired judge.
He lived in a gated community, with a very sophisticated alarm system in his house, besides a couple of guard dogs. He lived there as a recluse.

If I had been a judge, sentencing any number of defendants to prison and jail, over the years, I would flee the country for my retirement years, and live as an expatriate thousands of miles away! Just to be safe!
