There has been a fascination and mystique associated with BD Cooper for nearly 50 years and rightly so. After all, Cooper pulled an audacious crime in relative style and left without a trace. The only skyjacked never to be caught.
It is far less known and far less celebrated that somebody pulled almost the same crime as DB Cooper, only a few short months later, and not only survived the jump but also managed to make it home with the ransom money.
That man's name, Richard McCoy Jnr, and his story, to me at least, is nearly every bit as interesting as DB Cooper's.
If McCoy had kept his mouth shut there is a reasonable chance he would have got away with his skyjacking and we might be speaking about him in the same tones as we do DB Cooper.
Because McCoy opened his mouth, the authorities were onto him straight away.

I just saw a show on TV about Richard McCoy, it was very interesting.

I'm not surprised. The book FBI agent Bernie Rhodes co-authored about McCoy was a brilliant read. For the record it is called The Real McCoy. I paid about $50 or $60 for my copy, from memory, but it was worth every cent.
I really think there is a great movie in the making there, and the reason it makes perhaps a better movie than DB Cooper is we actually know the facts. It had everything, the audacious crime, the capture, the escape, the final shootout.

I have read this story a couple times somewhere and TV also. Quite a spectacular stunt he just failed the golden rule of crime I guess. Keeping your mouth shut. Thanks for the post. He managed to escape prison also and later was shot by law enforcement.
Documentation concerning how the $200,000 in stolen cash was spent
That's the part I'll be focusing on. If he put the money in the bank, that money would have made it back to the fed and the serial numbers would have been caught. So.. I think that's going to be the big part. If he held the cash for 20 years before depositing.. Well.. Maybe. But, honestly, I don't really think so, because the longer it went, the more automated the system became, making it likely harder for any to slip through.
