Decades ago, in either the late 1980s or perhaps the early 90's, I was watching a show about true
life horror stories. It may have been Unsolved Mysteries, but I am not sure.

A man with a horribly mutilated face walked into a motel or hotel with a machete and began to
terrorize the guests staying there. He walked through the corridors attacking anybody who he
saw outside their rooms, and then he went downstairs and tried to pull the fuses out of
the fuse box to cut the power to the building. As he was doing this, a cop confronted him,
and right then, the man charged at the cop, swinging his machete wildly. The cop had no
choice to open fire and kill the mad man. I don't think they ever found out who this
psychopath was.

I would like to find out what happened here, or maybe a link to that show/episode I saw, but
Googling is turning up nothing for me.

You may get a better response if you posted this in the True Crimes forums.

In the mid-1960s I sat on a sofa with a man who, unknown to me at the time, had killed his family with an ax in Houston just hours before but your story doesn't ring any bells for me.

YIKES! =|

I had a camp counsoler when I was a kid who a couple
decades later was in the news for child molestation. He
never touched me, but it makes me sick thinking about what could have happened!

Off topic, but others are sharing their stories. I worked at a place that rented construction equipment when I was young and just out of high school. One day I rented a small Bobcat and other items to a man. About a month later, LEO showed up and asked me a ton of questions about the transaction. The man that I rented the equipment to had murdered a woman and used the Bobcat to transport and bury the body in the woods.

Sounds like the film The Toolbox murders. Would also like to read about this case. It definitely sounds like an unsolved mysteries episode.

As a former long time hotel worker, I can certainly attest to the fact that crazies often wander in off the street. Had to have security remove non guests on plenty of occasions. One time a woman came to the desk and said she was the director of homeland security and needed protection. Security showed her the door.

I tried googling and it brought up some far more disturbing results.
