Remember when this happened? I just listened to Last Podcast on the Left’s 3 Part Series on it and they went into fairly extensive detail.
I was only 10 when it happened, but it was one of those things that was EVERYWHERE.
One thing I found interesting in the podcast was when they had a psychologist analyze the exist interviews and reported what the psychologist found. Basically it could be split up into three groups:
1) People who hated the world and just wanted to die.
2) People who loved the cult but showed clear signs (without saying it) that they really didn’t want to commit suicide, but felt they had to because the cult was all they knew.
3) People who loved the cult, wanted to kill themselves, and were enthusiastic about it.

Such a sad thing all in all.
I was 16 at the time and remember it, but not well. The best part is their website is still up and looks just as 1997ish as it can haha.
I just remember how creepy the Marshall something-or-another was that was the cult leader.
All things told.. As far as cults in the 90's.. Rather benign to the rest of society. They weren't diddling kids.. Weren't running guns. Didn't hurt anyone other than themselves.

On a Facebook group I'm part of someone said they contacted them and those left running the site still send out physical media. The poster attached some photos of what was sent including some VHS tapes of all things!
I was living in CA at the time and remember it well. It was related to the sighting of the Hale-Bopp comet which was visible (we got a good look at it one night driving across the Mojave on I-10). I remember they all wore the same athletic shoe.

I was thinking more of Branch Dividians.. Or that cult in Japan that did Sarin(?) gas in the subway.. but.. Yeah.. I mean, these people didn't really hurt anyone other than themselves. Something of a rarity. I actually have some level of respect for them for that.
They were kooky.. They believed kooky things (Suicide to catch a UFO trailing a comet).. They did something far beyond kooky.
Is this the cult that went to Mexico to be surgically 'neutered' ?
That's the part that has stuck with me.
I'm just reading a book by a woman who fled the FLDS church and it's just mind boggling how people will make decisions they know are wrong because of the intense indoctrination they endure.
