First of all, there ain't nothing to see south of the north end of Phoenix, except maybe Bisbee, and the Kitt Peak area.

Yep, the Tucson area really sucks.

I would say that population density in southern Arizona is nothing like it is in southern California. Yes, there are a few larger cities where the population is more dense, but much of southern Arizona is smaller towns with LOTS of space in between. Southern Arizona IS a beautiful place, at least to me. I live in Green Valley which is about 20 miles south of Tucson. Between Tucson and Green Valley, there is an Indian Reservation which will thankfully keep Tucson from reaching Green Valley. Like others have said, get off the freeway and go a few miles in any direction and you will most likely feel like you are the only one around, or one of the few in a given area. The weather is fantastic and you can live as remotely as you want to. Please come on over and visit and see for yourself!!!!

Hehe. There is no comparison at all. You really need to come visit Arizona. You can even bring your guns. Oh yeah, you live in the CSSR where they are just about outlawed.

But seriously, I lived in SoCal for 36 years and what you mention is the other reason I had to get out, over 20 years ago. "I remember when. . ." Towards the end, much of the old access to National forest land was closed off because developments made the access private. It got to where no matter how far I drove off on some back roads, there you were. And a few more houses as well.

As others have posted, you will find some islands of 'urbanization', but there is a whole bunch of open space in between. You'll want a 4x4.
