Hello alll!
I am a Registered Nurse and currently spending a ”gap year” in my native Finland but will return to the US in December this year. My husband is already starting his new job in Tucson and I’m curious about the job situation for nurses in Tucson. Are there plenty of jobs or not that many? We’d likely live in Civano area (not sure yet but he really likes the area) so I’d like to be within 30 min drive from there. For some reason I have grown interest in addiction nursing (substance abuse/recovery clinics and such), does Tucson have jobs in that field? Thank you in advance for any insight!

Tucson has several large hospitals, including the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Regardless of your specialty, Nursing jobs should be available. AZ is part of the Nursing Licensure Compact, so perhaps you are already licensed to practice in AZ.
It might be a good idea to brush up on Spanish language skills.

OP~ you should have zero problem finding employment in Tucson. (Or, anywhere else in the USA, for that matter.)

Looking at the climate for your native Finland, and comparing it to Tucson, you're in for a real awakening, when it comes to HEAT. Also, it'll be considerably more arid. Looking at wiki, "climate in Finland," it showed an all-time high temp of 99F. I got news for you. In the Summertime (like now,) it may get down to 99F in the middle of the night...

Maybe.

For instance, right now, it's 109F in Tucson, down from a high of 115F today. It's cooled off, to only 109F...think about this for a moment. If you have dogs/cats, they become indoor animals during May/October.

Now, Winter in Tucson is beyond awesome, this I can attest. You can leave your snow shovel in Finland!

Recovery and Addiction services are a really big industry in Tucson. At one point some of the most popular and famous addiction hospitals were/are located in Tucson. Of course this was back before they proliferated all over the country. But that certainly should be available to you.

One problem is that the neighborhood you've selected is going to limit your options as far as your 30 minute commute as that neighborhood is on the far east side of town. So the west and northwest facilities are going to be a longer commute than that. But there are still places to work on the east side.

Every hospital in town is desperate for RNs.

If you're really wedded to living way out east, I do know of one place - Carondelet St. Joseph Hospital out on Wilmot Road which has a unit doing psychiatric/addiction work.
