I stopped drinking rum when I finished my tour of duty in Alaska and stopped drinking altogether in 1980.

I transferred from the 138 Tactical Fighter Group U.S Air Force National Guard Tulsa OK International Airport to the (United States Post Coasties) U.S.C.G and was sent to Alaska for 1 1/2 Years. My commanding Officers all full bird Colonels or were they Lt. Colonels in the AFNG told me that I was doing to worst thing imaginable "joining a group of drunken sailors" and what do you know ( they were telling the truth )....I did join a brunch of drunken sailors.........LOL

This isn't written in stone for 2013 , but I plan on coming to Oklahoma every year until I retire (I'm 60 years young now) and doing some sailing on one of the lakes in metro Tulsa "this is on my "bucket list"

My son used to have a sail boat. One night I looked out and it was in the middle of the street, perpendicular and blocking any traffic. I woke him up to go get it. I thought it rolled out there all by itself, but he said, no way. Someone did it. He sailed on Lake Hefner, not far from my house.

That's The Beautiful Thing About OKC..............the city has really large lakes with the city limit proper. One of the mysteries of my life in Oklahoma is me not ever going to any of those Lakes
during my visits to OKC and Norman OK.

Oologah is a large north-south lake and it often has very strong southerly winds. When you are out on the middle of it, it can be almost like being on an open sea. It can at times be a dangerous and intimidating lake with large waves.

But it is good for sailing, just don't get too far north where it gets shallow.
