I am driving to Texas and plan to stop for the night in Tulsa or the surrounding area. I will be traveling with my mother and 7 year old daughter. Where would the best place to stay in order to arrive early enough to walk around and enjoy the day.

I would suggest 2 different places just off the top of my head...

The grand old Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa if you will be there during a week day. Luxury Tulsa Hotels with Boutique Amenities – The Mayo Hotel Most of downtown is still quiet in the evenings or days during the weekends, but during the weekday it it bustling and you will be in the historic "Deco District" of downtown and can sneak peeks into lots of the wonderful old skyscraper lobbies and just look at the architecture along Boston Ave and 5th streets, eat at a restaurant, perhaps catch a show at the PAC or some other venue.

The second option would be the Aquarium Inn and Sweets across the river from Tulsa in Jenks. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Jenks (Jenks, OK) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor Next door is the Oklahoma Aquarium, Oklahoma Aquarium and bout a block or so from that is the Riverwalk (usually kinda quiet during the day then bustling nights especially weekends) and then about 3 blocks to the West is Jenks Main Street with its nice collection of antique stores.

Interestingly some of the nicest areas of Tulsa in which a person might enjoy having a stroll, shopping, dining, etc. there are no hotels within walking distance. Utica Square, Brookside and Cherry Streets. I still find it shocking that there isnt a hotel near Utica Square and all the stuff around there.
