I haven't noticed more bankrupts. It is time for some changes, though. It's been years since they tried to address the "one contestant monopolizing the show" issue. My suggestions:
1. Why should the contestant who wins tossups 2 & 3 start the game? They already won cash for that. Plus, the person who wins the first tossup simply gets interviewed first. Big deal. Game play should move from left to right or right to left or left to right regardless of who solved the last puzzle.
2. Enough with buying vowel after vowel without spinning the wheel each time. Contestants should have to take their chances with the wheel before buying another vowel.
3. There should be no calling vowels at the final round. No money is gained or lost then, so the person ahead often secures his win by simply calling vowels because he doesn't need the money.
I'll have to pay more attention to that, I haven't noticed it, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I hate the way they've revamped the show. The worst part is the prize puzzle round because whichever contestant wins that usually wins the game. It's practically impossible for the other contestants to make up a 10k deficit in the later rounds.
As far as the bankrupt or lose-a-turn category; what I've observed is that once the wheel lands on either of those two slots, the next spin will usually end up in the same place unless the contestant spins the wheel much less, or much harder.
I most certainly agree about the contestant who wins the trip having an edge; but the same plays true if a contestant wins the car; or wins the $10,000 prize.

Wheel of Fortune way back when... remember when they had to "shop" with the "money" they had won?
"I'll take the wicker chair for $1700, the ceramic dog for $350... and put the other $11 on a Service Merchandise gift certificate"
(Service who, like JC Penney, scoffed at the internet - thinking people would keep shopping from a catalog instead of a computer... opening the door for Amazon's meteoric rise and the demise of Service and struggles of JC Penney)
