I think it was Hope running down the stairs. It's a soap Thomas can disappear and reappear a million times
I read that the acid has been replaced with water and Thomas is ok. I really don't see him being dead.
That's an interesting take on it. So where is Douglas during all of this time?!
I'm wondering the same thing but chances are his location is a benign one. He's with a babysitter or some family member. His 'disappearance' was only used to set up the scene for Thomas to fall into the vat of acid/water.

It was also a set up for Thomas to try to get romantic with Hope even though we know she has no romantic interest in him at all.
If that acid was replaced with something else that would be crazy. We saw the steam come off, greenish color and once acid has been in the tank and replaced with water there will be residue left which is harmful.
I couldn't care Thomas vanished from the show, just as I'm glad that Taylor is gone.

But it will be just a nightmare or will he be alive?!
I believe he's alive.
