With so many good shows on TV today including Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Homeland, Scandal, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards and more, which one do you think is the best? Has there ever been a time when there were so many good shows on at once?
Breaking Bad by far. I have only seen the first episode of House of Cards & I liked it, but nothing comes close to Breaking Bad in my book. Enlightened is also a brilliant show but I think only a handful of people have ever seen it & I don't see it lasting long.
I dont get the fixation people have with Breaking Bad. I have never seen it and know nothing about it beyond what I have read, but every time I ask someone what I should watch literally everyone says "Breaking Bad". Reading the synopsis it just doesnt seem like it would appeal to me.
Scandal? How did that make the list? Must be one of the OPs faves.
I think the IMDB rating does a good job of measuring of a TV show:
Breaking Bad (9.4)
Game of Thrones (9.4)
Dexter (9.1)
Walking Dead (8.7)
Justified (8.7)
Sons of Anarchy (8.7)
Homeland (8.6)
And for historical reference:
The Wire (9.4)
The Sopranos (9.2)
The Shield (8.6)
You could argue decimal points here and there, but those shows that are 9+ are all a notch above the 8s.

As for the year that had the most good shows, 2004 is hard to beat. Using IMDB rating:
1. The Wire (9.4)
2. Arrested Development (9.3)
3. The Sopranos (9.2)
4. Six Feet Under (8.9)
5. Deadwood (8.9)
6. Battlestar Gallactica (8.8)
7. The Shield (8.6)
8. The West Wing (8.6)
9. 24 (8.5)
10. Curb Your Enthusiasm (8.4)
11. Lost (8.3)
Honorable mentions to NYPD Blue, Frasier, Scrubs, Friends, Will and Grace, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, King of Queens, Without a Trace, Monk, Malcolm in the Middle.
2008 was another great year, with The Wire, Breaking Bad and The Shield all airing.
I have never watched any on the OP's list so I had to say other. The shows I like to watch today would be "Mad Men," "Downton Abby," "Castle" and "Touch." I think my favorite of yesterday would be "Monk."
Sitcoms today, "Mike and Molly," "Go On," and "The Big Bang Theory."
Sitcoms yesterday, "Frazier," "Mary Tyler Moore," "The Odd Couple," and "Will and Grace."
