I really liked it. It's definitely not a heart warmer, and it won't make you love the Sex Pistols, but it'll make you pity them. At least I did.
The focus is primarily on Steve Jones, which makes sense. He was the heart of the band. But Johnny, Sid, Glen, and Paul all figure into the story. It's pretty unflinching, even if it does take liberties with actual history in favor of drama. Johnny Rotten definitely comes across as a lost little loudmouth with occasional moments of genius --- but he actually does have a heart. Glen is a nice guy and the only member with any real musical talent. Sid is a talentless loser and a junkie. And Malcolm McLaren is definitely shown as the monstrous villain.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much Chrissie Hynde (of the Pretenders) was in the story.
Definitely not for kids. Very R-rated.
But on the list of good biopics on musicians, this definitely belongs on the list.
No, but it doesn't surprise me at all. PISTOL is a pretty good drama. I'm sure it's not entirely accurate history, just as I'm sure the primary reason that the Right Honorable Mr. Lydon is upset is that the story isn't all about him.
I have always found Lydon incredibly entertaining, but it's past time he grew up and realized that the reason so many talented people refuse to work with him is that he behaves like an a-hole.

True, Lydon thinks disrespecting people and things (often that he doesn't understand) is punk. It's just so lazy. He was very amusing thru the end of the century but has lost the plot. That kind of punk attitude should end by age 25.

Yup.
The thing I admired about punk: They saw the hypocrisy and hollowness in so much of society and wanted to tear it down.
The thing I despised about punk: They had no idea what to do after the teardown, except scream and whine and start their own hollow, hypocritical cliques.
