The Night Shift will be clocking extra hours at NBC: The summer medical drama has just been renewed for a 14-episode second season, TVLine has learned.
Actually it's more of a Scrubs ripoff but more dramatic. They literally have stolen scenes right from Scrubs (the guy pretending to be a corpse in the back of the ambulance, for example.)
Also, there have been many hospital shows throughout the duration of broadcast and network tv, just like there have been many police procedurals. It's an easy formula. To say it's a Grey's Anatomy ripoff ignores the fact that Grey's Anatomy was a ripoff of ER, and ER was a ripoff of St. Elsewhere, and St. Elsewhere was... you get where I'm going with this??
I like the show. It's not groundbreaking and the acting is somewhat stiff, but it's something to watch on my downtime.
This is the first hospital drama I've watched in years and so far, so good.
Granted, I only started watching it to see the guy I knew from "Merlin" but the Army aspect has really captivated me so still watching.
Could easily lose me if they play up the love triangle much more, so here's hoping they get over that nonsense soon.
Initially I watched it because it's supposed to be set in San Antonio (but not filmed there), so I can laugh at them about how badly they screwed up on resembling that city at all! But it's not bad! I made a mistake on how I programmed my machine to record it the other night, so I'll have to watch that episode online. It doesn't remind me of Grey's Anatomy...and that's a good thing!
I've been watching since first episode and I'm enjoying it! The Army aspect of it holds my interest even more and I'm beginning to become familiar with the characters and like them. Glad to hear it was renewed!
