If Jack Davenport played "Doctor Don Draper", what other characters on "Med Men" had analogs on Mad Men?
What isn't there? *LOL*
For one the whole all lads together attitude of the medical profession as depicted and treatment of women in general.
The older (wealthy) wife who visits a secretary in hospital and realizes her husband is having an affair and has what can only be called a breakdown afterwards. Her husband's response is to haul her into a doctor's office and basically order/threaten him if he does not "give her something" because he cannot have his wife behaving like a loose cannon. So even thought the woman is NOT ill (and she knows it) the doctor obliges and prescribes Estrogen (Premarin) (hormone replacement therapy) and Chlordiazepoxide (Librium) based not on any sort of exam or condition but to keep the husband happy (and from going the doctor's superiors). Worse during this whole examination the husband and physician discuss the woman as if she isn't even in the room. When they do address her it is in insulting tones (the drugs will help with the sagging, mood swings, etc.. says the doctor), or to order her about (to go and undress for the examination).
Any physician today who treated a female patient like that would likely be bounced out of a hospital or find himself in the ER having something extracted from up his arse.
It got even better when that Matron (a throwback to Florence Nightingale days) sits the wife down after she tries to kill her husband's mistress and basically backs up the men. Are you taking the meds? You should they will help. I am a woman and work with them all day and can tell you sometimes we need to be tamed! Yeah that one would be right next to the doctor in the ER also having a bit of something extracted from an orifice.
The whole mood, settings etc.. of early 1960's London smacks of MM which is set in the same period. Just a different location and profession. However make no mistake they both glamourize the last gasp of when men (in particular white educated professionals) ran things.
Had no idea was responding to another thread, just saw the title and went with it. Since mine seemed to have died a natural death from disinterest don't see why you are upset. It is not as if both threads are active, only this one.

I'm not upset. Where did you get that from? I simply asked the question as I had responded to your thread when you posted it. It was just a question.
