As men, we're used to being told we aren't allowed to be affectionate toward one another, to squash back our real feelings even when they are joyous and loving, and so on. Of course, when we're not those things, we are scorned as too insecure to share our feelings. Considering all the dichotomies society throws at women in which they're damned if they do and damned if they don't, I think women can understand and relate very well. And if we think about this Joe and Dad situation as men, it can give us some empathy for all the situations women are put in (often by us) that are no-win deals.
Me, I'm just happy for them that they have this loving relationship. If they kiss on the lips, that's between them. If they have the character to do it before a national audience, that earns them my respect. If I were prone to envy, I'd envy them, but I don't. But I wish I had a similar relationship with a living dad, but if I can't, good for Joe and Papa Joe. Long may they be best friends.

Beautifully put. I remember as a kid seeing men do this all the time. My family is from an Eastern European background and it was the custom. I thought nothing of it. But since I haven't seen this in many decades I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I saw this interaction between Joe and his dad.
Then I remembered my own family of many decades ago and thought it was sweet. It shows a love and a bond between a son and a dad and boy oh boy, in these times how can anyone say something like this isn't a lot more pleasant to witness as opposed to that which the news media is showing us these days.

It creeped me out a bit, okay, a lot. But, Joe said that when he was growing up, his dad was very remote and not one to show affection, or praise him much. Maybe his dad had an epiphany and is making up for lost time? Still, they seemed a little too cozy for my liking.
When I was little, I kissed my family on the lips. Even the puppy. Somewhere along the line, I got a hangup. I can barely hug people without feeling creeped out since I was about nine. Better that Joe and Dad don't have the hangup, IMHO.
A smooch should really just be a smooch. A passionate kiss is something else entirely.
I apologize if my comment offended or created an assumption about their relationship. That was NOT my intention at all. Yes, I admit the kissing on the lips struck me as odd, as I have never witnessed any father and son do that. I personally do not kiss either of my parents on the lips. That said, I certainly don't think anything inappropriate is going on there with Joe and his father. My reaction was just...hmm...not really sure how to explain why I thought it was weird. Maybe it's just because I don't typically see fathers and son act that way together (the physical interaction, the tickling, the kissing on the lips).
Men should definitely not feel the need to hide their feelings or emotions or back away from physical contact with each other because of what others might assume about it. It's my issue not theirs.
I think it would be interesting if the guys targeted Wentworth and the girls targeted Jeremy. Both get wind of it and use their hidden immunity idols. The vote winds up 0 to 0. How would Jeff handle that?

That would be amazing! Because on the revote, they would be immune and so someone completely unexpected would go! Oh man, now I want this to happen.
