This, and Fantasy Island. They were so formulaic that I believe they were able to strip them such that reruns could have only two of the three story lines of the original episode, making more room for commercials.

I find just about every show on Network TV predictable and formulaic, even the crime dramas. I can usually tell "who did it" within the first 15 minutes. There is little in the way of original programming these days with a few exceptions. Once a show becomes popular we get lots of other shows that are very similar. Ditto for plots. Back in the day of the western I know of at least three TV shows that used the "main character goes blind" plot including one on Bonanza where the girl that found Little Joe was mute.

Blonde does something ditzy, brunette reminds us she's a ****. Rinse and repeat.

Usually if there is a couple, one is wanting a bland McMansion in the suburbs and one wants a smaller place nearer to downtown. They work it out and everyone is happy.
Love It or List It takes it up a notch though. The designer and realtor have nearly the exact same banter every.single.time. And there's always some MAJOR unexpected necessary repair that's going to destroy the budget, so the designer has to break the news that one of the must-have projects needs to be eliminated. This causes the homeowners to get into an argument, and they walk down the street, presumably off camera and out of earshot of the crew, but OOPS, they forgot that their mics are still hot.

**insert eyeroll**

Anything with Kevin James in it. He's always playing some fat slob who somehow manages to attract thin good looking women despite being a moron. From King of Queens to Kevin can wait and Paul Blart, it's always the same storyline.

That's the fantasy for many many people - which is why he gets so many shows.

Any show by Property Brothers-Like Fixer Upper: Couple get shown and love nice home they can't afford. Property Brothers show them a Fixer Upper that they can rehab for an insane amount of money that is lower cost than in real life.

Hoarders-Hoarder has house and yard stuffed full of things; fights the "help" provided and does not want to cooperate; house cleaned up considerably by the end of the show.

My 600 pound life. Fat person shown taking a shower and eating, starts seeing Dr. Now in Houston,, may or may not lose weight by the end of the show.
