Pitchmen airs Wednesday night at 10pm on Discovery.
Infomercial pitchmen Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan became known for their no-nonsense, neon loud, it's all about the product, approach to selling.
Mays said that people want the pitch, and he knows people are turned off by the crazy advertising that seeks to entertain, fool people, treat them like children, etc. He is right. I don't care if a celebrity endorses a product, they are being paid the right amount of money to do it. It doesn't make product right for me.
The show is going to show how they picked products from inventors which they made informercials successfully.
Both of these guys came up the hard way and crafted their "in your face" sales techniques.
Me too. Much more interesting than those mega-kid family shows on TLC. I like seeing how inventors come up with their ideas. Some of the ideas are good, but others, you know they just won't sell.
The one guy with the wiper blades should have made his product here in the US, it would have saved him the money of going back and forth to China, and then having to get them to get the product right.
Great link. Mays worked his way up from the bottom. He does the hard sell, but next to the hypnotic selling of Madison Avenue, it's refreshing. Just tell me about the product, and the price.
Don't give me cute commercials than have a twist at the end or make me go "oh gawd" because I didn't guess what they hiding behind the curtain.
What I liked about Pitchmen is how it shows so many people who risk so much to bring their products to market. So often on that show the story is if the product is a flop then the inventor stands to lose everything.
It should be required watching for our politicians who are so reckless with our money and so freely criticize the financially successful.

If he does keep doing the show, it sort of honors Billy, too.
