Sure, it happened occasionally. It was rare though.
Regardless, I don't think anyone can deny that Al liked Jefferson much more than Steve.
If you compare the Steve shows to the Jefferson ones (apart from the disastrous Seven era) you will see the Jefferson ones are funnier. Steve rarely made fun of Marcy. He and Marcy were the Yuppie foils of lower class Peg and Al.
When Jefferson came into his own, Al had a 'nudie bar' buddy and the writers added a lot more characters making the show expand outside the family dynamics. You had the episode where Al and Jefferson's "No Ma'am" buddies come over to install the cable on the roof and the wives taking bets on who would fall and get hurt and when...
I suppose the bottom line is the Jefferson character was more likeable. The Steve character was always uptight. Even when he returns for a few shows, he is stiff and non-engaging.
Nah, I found the Jefferson ones more base easy humor. b00bie jokes and the like. That is also the time when the stuff started getting repeditive.
I liked Steve only because he was more real. Jefferson looks like someone that should have been on Friends. I don't think there are any guys that look, and dress, like that in the 'burbs!
the only other problem was that there were no other guys. Guys do not have just one friend/neighbor they hang out with. Al looked like the kind of guy that would go bowling with friends (didn't he?) or have a poker night every Saturday. But he seemed so isolated.
The problem with isolation is you have very little to go on after a time. That is why shows like Soap, and even MASH lasted as long as they did. you could focus on one group or another w/o anybody else having to even cameo. You could even have two entirely seperate groups of writers!
Anyway, people have their preferences, and I think I liked the Steve days better, but mostly because the writing was fresher, not because of either character in particular...
I got too much pleasure to read about Married With Children TV Show. This show is related to comedy drama and I have watched its all episodes from Internet.
