for those who are coming close to exhausting the first 26 weeks of benefits. I live in CA, was unemployed in Dec and am coming to the end of my benefits this month. I am still within my first benefit year, but at the end of my benefit amount. If the EB passes tomorrow, will I be eligible to go on extended benefits or go on Tier 1?

The job market is very tight out there and very sucky.

Thanks!

This is really basic info. It should be outlined on your UI state page. Long story short, you will get no extension if the bill doesnt pass today. If it does pass you will move into a tier 1 or EB depending on your state.

Actually it's spelled out pretty clear on this page for CA :

New Federal Unemployment Insurance Extensions

I would assume that once they pass the extensions it will continue on the schedule listed there. So you'd be eligible for Tier 1 up to 20 weeks where you are in the process.

How many weeks of unemployment in illinois, including extensions are there now that the bill past. I am laid off since mid november of 2008. I am not sure what tier i was when i got my last partial check that went to early june. If anyone in illinois knows specifics, please let me know. I am grateful that the kankakee office told me to continue to certify for benefits every other week. This kept me in the system, so if you were doing that, good, if not, you might call the local office or go in.

Does anyone know about how the retroactive benefits will be given?

Thanks,

jandjands

I believe that you will. The Republicans are stalling on this bill and waiting until the 30 hours (By Law) to sign off and pass it on to the Pres. It has passed so keep your chin up. It is very consfusing I know. Have you contacted your state dept of unemployment services? You may wish to start there. Good Luck.
