Drop in NYS Unemployment Rate Shortens Weeks of Unemployment Benefits

I live in NYS and collect NJ Extended Benefits (EB) right now with about six weeks of balance remaining. I got cut off when the funding stopped in NY. I was just wondering if this new news about NY would affect me or not. There cutting out Tier 4 which I completed before I started EB. They say it won't start until August 16? I'm just confused. Thank you.

I am in the same exact situation as you are. My EB checks stopped coming since June 6th but I continued claiming through the NJ telephone system - today I got my checks since June 6th and I was able to claim throug the NJ website without getting that message "eb has ended in your state". I have 4 weeks left of the extended benefits. After that, I believe that is it. Hopefully I will get a job by then though..

As far as them cutting out tier 4, I believe this only applies to those that have not gotten to tier 4 yet. So if you are on tier 1, 2 or 3 or anythign prior to that and you live in NY, you will not get tier 4. But if you are already in tier 4 or past it, then it doesn't apply to you. That is how I understand it anyway...

If you are concerned about the Tier IV you have exhausted, don't be. A state must trigger Tier IV with a three-month average unemployment rate of at least 8.5% -- and NJ triggered Tier IV long ago, and it doesn't look like there will be a significant drop in the unemployment rate here anytime soon.

In addition, payment of the Tiers is not affected by whether or not you collect those benefits from the same state in which you reside. There is no "reciprocity rule" for Tier benefits -- unlike EB. The change with Tier IV in NY would not affect your NJ UI benefits, even if you had not yet collected them.

Ok, thanks for your help. I was just confused cause I saw NYS is dropping down to 93 weeks, and I wasn't sure if NJ was then going to take six weeks from my EB which probably would've been about what I had left.
