I started collecting UI this month. If I take a temporary job doing some random job that pays $8 or $9 an hour, and let's say that the temporary job lasts no more than a month, and then I go back to unemployment, will I be able to continue collecting UI after that month?

Yes, as long as you dont quit your temp job, and you are not over the 26 weeks which could require a re-authorization by congress for you to keep collecting.
Then why are so many people complaining about the huge mistake they made when they chose a temporary job instead of collecting?
Bill HR 4213 should have corrected the issue you are talking about. Its a big subject and there are numerous threads on it if you search 4213. Basically if you worked enough temp work in the past you could have had your UI cut in half if you were to start a new benefit year.
