Let's say you get a job offer but they tell you that you need to train for x amount of hours before you start working there. .
Whether paid training or not, you report this to unemployment . So let's say you did 2 hours of training that week . Do they ( unemployment office ) deduct the two hours ?
I have applied to a job with very little experience but yet related experience in a retail environment. I am sure that I would have to have some training if they decided to hire me.. If so, how much does that effect your unemployment ?
Does anyone understand how this might work ?
They always ask " Did you attend training during the week ? "
If I were you, don't say anything unless the training pays you and can prove they pay you (taking your social security number for tax purposes).
If you report this training to the department, they will probably cut you off of unemployment and schedule an interview with you to determine if are still eligible to receive benefits. At which point, you are completely at the mercy of the department while those clowns fool around with your claim.
Reporting training or school is really a formality to determine whether or not the program takes time away from you looking and gaining adequate employment. The worst thing that can happen is to be cut off from your benefits at a time when you need it most.
However, if it is on the job training, just report the wages you make like you normally would if you had a temporary job while on unemployment. The department should then just give you the difference.
