Just wondering how everyone handles that question if its applicable to a past job. I hated the last job I was at and only took it because I needed to work. I stayed because I didn't want to jeopardize unemployment, since I am aware you can't leave a job just because its not a good match.
Well I got my wish and now I am unemployment. I'm nervous when presented with the question "why did you leave" or "were you ever fired."
My concern at this point is that I am being blackballed by this previous employer. I want to be honest with future employers, as I was not let go for misconduct, but how good can it possibly look knowing someone as fired? Employers have their pick of the litter now, so its hard for me to place my best foot fwd. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,
I've read a lot on this topic and if you google similar topics you will find plenty to read about how to handle this. Mostly the synopsis is to find a way to show you have evolved from the position.
If asked on an application if you have ever been terminated or asked to resign I say "Yes, let go with severance, currently looking for something in line with my education" or something of that nature. It will show that you and the company were in agreement you didn't steal or sexually harass a coworker and that if the problem was your attitude that you're working to find something better.
This may not seem like much but if you read some of the info on the web it'll make more sense.
At least you know why you were let go...imagine all the folks who were laid off after years and years or so close to retiring...everyday they have to wonder, "why...why me?" but you already know the answer. Silver lining to being fired as opposed to being laid off.
