Ok so I past the one year mark this month for my unemployment and 2 weeks ago they put me on a whole new claim. The woman from UI asked me 2 weeks ago if I would like taxes taken out of my unemployment, and I said no. So today I claim my benefits for the first time on this new claim and I see $44 of taxes withheld? Im confused since I never signed that form to withhold taxes from my benefits.

Im currently dealing with a collection agency who took some money out of federal and state taxes to pay school loans. Can they do the same with my unemployment? Im calling UI tomorrow but would like some light shed on this. Thanks in advance

I am sure you can have that reversed. They take 10% so I assume you received $440?

No, i didn't receive $440. The $44 WAS the 10% they took out of my 2 week claim (it seems after doing the math). Like I said before, not sure why that happened when i requested no taxes be taken out
