They had issues verifying my identity and work history which resulted in an inaccurate benefits award (of $0.00) - and i've been without unemployment benefits the whole time this has been getting resolved.
After 3 months of pulling my hair out with EDD I have finally received my Amended Benefit Award Letter in the mail yesterday for the correct benefit amount!
My question is: How do I go about claiming the benefits that were owed to me dating back to December 01 2013 which is when my claim started? Will I start receiving new claim forms in the mail or do I need to reopen my claim? I live in California. Was laid off in November 2013.
You were supposed to file claims the whole time this was being resolved. Now, if CA never sent them, you might be able to ask for them, but you should have asked for them way back in Dec if they weren't coming.
At a minimum, you need to reopen your claim to get your benefits going forward, but be sure to say something about the missed weeks, and be sure to blame it all on EDD when you have this conversation.
I could not file the whole time because my award was invalid ($0.00/wk) as they didn't have my identity or work history verified. It was only after months of back and forth that they finally verified both and I received the accurate award letter yesterday for alternate base period - this most definitely was EDD's fault!
this has been such a nightmare and I'm starting to feel like it's not even close to being resolved even with the accurate amended award letter showing $450/wk benefit amount.
CA should be sending you forms for all those back weeks. They've done this before when claims have been stalled. Call EDD immediately about those missing forms just to be sure you're on track.
