Hi everyone, I checked the forums before asking.

I requested a few days off two weeks in advance . After a few days, my hours are cut from working 4 days to 1. I filled a new claim for unemployment. Is requesting unpaid time off, even before making claim, affect my benefits/claim?

No. Your request for time off prior to filing for benefits has nothing to do with your eligibility for benefits.

Employer actually reducing your hours 75% has everything to do with your eligibility for benefits. Sounds like the employer is retaliating for the time-off request. You are retaliating by filing for benefits.

Again, your request for time off will not affect your eligibility for benefits.

On the sheet your employer has to fill out has a space for them to write any time off request for that week. At least that is how it used to be in VA not sure if it still is like that.

Oh, indeed, if the schedule change is made to accommodate the time off request, then it is an entirely different issue and there is no eligibility for benefits.

My reply is predicated on the assumption, the employer has permanently reduced employee's hours 75% now and going forward beyond the requested time off.
