Hi,
couple of random questions I can't seem to find an answer to on the internet..
I have a friend (yes, really) who has been unemployed off and on for the last several years. Mostly due to relocation. Anyway, he had a job for about 18 months in WA state, and was then laid off- received unemployment, and is still collecting.
He has had some interest for employers but either at horrible commutes or much less pay (which the UE office said he didn't need to take). He has been approached with some contract jobs, but most are only for a few months.
Does working as a contractor preclude you from collecting unemployment again after the contract ends, since you go into it knowing you'll only have a job for xx months? Also, he lives in a border city between two states- he was living and working in one (wa); but many jobs are in Oregon, while he would continue to live in WA- does that have any impact?
Also, what about seasonal work? We have a friend in California who (for years) works 6 months a year for a seasonal employer, then goes on unemployment for 6 months till the job site re-opens; just makes me wonder how that even works with the "job search" requirement of UE?
mods- please delete this thread since no one has responded
