My best friend's Benefit Year Expired (he is on UI in CA).
He eventually figured out that he needs to file a new claim, but by the time he did that there were several weeks between when his old claim expired and when he filed his new claim.
He did not certify for those few weeks in between. Is there any way he could possibly be paid for these weeks or did he just simply miss out on them?
Could a Tier 2 specialist backdate his new claim to when his old one expired so it's seamless?
That is what happened to me, I was on EB that overranned the BYE date by few weeks. I had to filed a new claim and had to contact them to adjust start date for me back to when I stopped being paid so there wouldn't be a gap.
To answer your question, YES. However, in my situation the $300 Federal Boost was not included. I have waited 11 weeks to receive the PUA benefits, but it was nothing less of sheer persistence of calling numerous times to speak to a Tier 2 Specialist and asking them to expedite the funding. And, I did not have to certify for the weeks I got paid today. They are at random. Not all weekly claims have been paid. I'm hoping the rest of the unpaid weeks will come through soon. It looks like they are having to override the system manually. I strongly suggest your friend contact EDD after he receives his "AWARD" letter (he should have received it in the mail approximately one week after he spoke to the EDD Specialist who filed his new claim) and ask to speak to a Tier 2 Specialist. I know getting through to EDD hasn't been easy these past months, but he could be waiting longer if he's not on top of it. Wishing your friend Good Luck!
Got it. So was your whole claim on hold while they were backdating it? Or were you still able to claim for the current weeks, just waiting on the missed weeks to go through?
I don't think he can afford to have his whole claim be pending if that's what it takes, he's living on these payments week to week.
But if they can backdate it without disrupting his current payments, maybe he can give it a shot.
