As a result I'm unemployed and cannot work for any length of time given the excruciating pain it creates which extends from the neck into arms and hands. I lost the $300 per week because I'm in a red state where elected officials hate the working class, so I'm supposed to make ends meet at $275 per week. My initial request for disability was denied because it's more/less short-term until I can get my insurance to agree to surgery or pain management so the question is there some other approach to this I should be trying?

I've heard that many people apply for disability multiple times before they're successful.

Just don't let unemployment know about this as it's an A&A disqualification if you're sufferings from a medical condition that prevents you from seeking, accepting or working your customarily suitable employment. You may also want to plan for a possible overpayment should the state discover this as they will want all their money back.
