I've heard that one of the problems with unemployment figures is that it doesn't reflect those who do not apply or who longer are eligible for benefits.

I am wondering if part of the reason for the rise in unemployment rates the past couple of weeks is that there is an increase in applications BC of the stimulus package.

Do you think this could be?

I know people who just got an extension because of the package, but I don't think it applies to people who have already applied. Since mine is not active yet since Dec. because I have a hearing to determine eligibility maybe mine isn't counted. I don't know.

Well, it could be because 651,000 people lost their jobs last month. You think?

JTG- Yes, that's definately a big part of it. And I don't think that things are great or that they will even be good for a very long time. But I recently accepted a job offer and was offered another FT and two contract gigs and I am hiring for two FT positions BC two people have taken other jobs. Also have heard for four folks in my little circle of reality who have gotten jobs and two whose businesses have seen a bump since January.

I was just wondering if there could be more to it. Hopefully!
