Hello, I recently applied for UIC and I just had a few questions..

How is the weekly payment amount determined?

Once an amount is determined can they renege on it?

What would cause someone to get a hit w/ a 6 week penalty after the telephone appointment w/ the previous employer?

Unemployment is state specific, there is no way to answer given the information you've provided.

The best way to figure out how much you are going to get, look at your most recent paycheck and split that in half - that's how much you get on UI.

Not neccessarily. Florida u/e caps at $275/week regardless of your income. I was getting a lot less than half of what my previous earnings were.

All that information will be in the claim letter that is mailed after you open up your claim.

The website for the State of New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has the answers to all of your questions -- including how your benefit is calculated:

In New Jersey, the amount of unemployment benefits you may receive each week is your Weekly Benefit Rate (WBR). The amount will be 60% of the average weekly earnings during your base year period, up to a maximum of $584 (in 2009). The maximum amount may change each year.

Go to "AFTER THE FILING PROCESS":
Department of Labor and Workforce Development | After the Filing Process

Determine why you were penalized -- it was specified in the written determination you received from Unemployment. Click on that section.

For any further questions, go to "HOME" on the website and select from the options in the left hand column.
