It can really only be 3 different things, he either fell into a hole or deep shaft that was not easily visible on the surface, an animal got him and VERY quickly subdued him (without making a sound or leaving a trace), or it was something 'unexplainable'.

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best. Kid gets lost, slips or gets hurt before he can call for help. Mysterious, nervous-looking guy comes across a hurt kid in the middle of nowhere, picks him up, kids wakes up and struggles and yells for help after a while, leading to the witnesses saying they heard the yell, kid is killed, body dumped, guy flees.

Yes, when I listened to that guy Dr Douglas James Cottrell, he does readings like Edgar Caycee used to do, he would go under a trance and then someone would ask him questions, he would access the 'Akashic Records' to give the answers...on the Missing 411, they gave him a bunch a names and he started explaining what happened, 80% of the time, it was something like you said, got lost, or fell into a hole, got hurt and couldnt walk anymore, etc...however there was a handful of cases that involve more 'extraordinary' things, (like aliens, Bigfoot,), but it was a small number compared to the others.
