hi, I'm thinking to move to scotland and I need some advice I'm originally from england (london) and I want to know what rights do I have in moving there? obviously it is part of the UK but with regards to social help should I need it, is it any different from the english system? can I get free medical treatment on the scottish nhs?
I'd like to work and eventually to study there, my boyfriend is polish and speaks excellent english so that's no problem, he has good qualifications and work experience. is there any part of scotland (ie. edinburgh, glasgow) that has a significant polish community? any overall place where it is 'better' to find work?

if anyone can help me I'll be very grateful.

and most importantly, what will the locals think of my london accent? :-p

If you want to study in Scotland you will need to pay full tuition fees (scandalous, I know). Edinburgh and Aberdeen are best for jobs in Scotland, while Glasgow is home to more immigrants.

Medical treatment is free all over the United Kingdom, but it's prescriptions which are free in Scotland

You might get the odd funny look in the local pub, or maybe the odd fist or two! (kidding, of course)

Scotland's 4 biggest cities all have fairly sizable Polish communities, and don't listen to the scaremongering in the previous comment you won't have any funny looks, no more than a Scot in England. The 4 biggest cities all have plenty of English and foreign students, residents etc, I personally have 4 English friends who have not encountered any hassle or prejudice here in Dundee and have plenty of friends and a decent job and life. If you want to move here you would be more than welcome!
