Don't you think the SNP are being a little too ambitious? This woman is now saying that the UK is on "limited time" .

What do you think?

I personally obviously disagree. I knew the SNP would be looking for another referendum, I think they are a bit deluded to be honest. I can't see the result being much different if there is another referendum, even 5 years later.

She does not seem to think about tension in the Scottish community. This is not the time to be starting this nonsense back up, there is a time and a place!

The SNP will dredge up any excuse they can to get another referendum.

Sturgeon doesn't care about antagonizing anyone, whether they're south or north of the border. All she wants is independence, by any means and at any cost.

Personally, I don't think there should be another referendum for a generation. Which means about 20 years. If the SNP think they can just keep calling endless referendums until they get the result they want, then surely in the interests of fairness the No campaign can then demand endless further referendums until they get another no vote. The blinkered nationalists only want fairness when it benefits them.

Most people in Scotland don't want independence. The only reason the SNP have so many MP's is due to the referendum backlash, as Labour backed the No campaign. They'll lose the majority of those new MP's at the next election.

You might have also noticed they have gone strangely quiet on the subject of oil revenues lately. If Scotland was independent now they would be making no money at all from oil, and would have a huge hole in their finances as a result.

Exactly. I'm of the same opinion, they should wait at least another 10 years before doing a referendum.

It seems like such a waste of time and money to me. They'd be better exercising their power elsewhere like the healthcare or infrastructure in Scotland. If she keeps harping on about a referendum every year people are going to get sick of her and vote no.

The whole thing is a childish fantasy that has the potential to shoot them in the foot.

Give the SNP enough rope and they'll hang themselves.
Let's see what happens when the Scots wake up to the fact that the SNP can't govern Scotland even with enormous financial help from the rest of the UK.
The abolition of university tuition fees has done little to help disadvantaged Scottish students and Scotland is now the worst place in Britain to be poor and bright.
And contrary to SNP claims poverty in Scotland is falling as a result of the Conservative government's economic policy and job creation programme.
The SNP's reorganisation of the police forces in Scotland into one gigantic authority has been an unmitigated disaster - bringing no cost savings and merely making the police even more remote to ordinary Scots.
Personally I'd like the rest of the UK to ditch Scotland, save the £12billion it pays every year as part of the Barnet Formula and watch thousands of Scots flee south of Hadrian's Wall as Sturgeon and Salmon turn Scotland into the tartan version of Greece.

being at the opposite end of the country to Scotland, it makes no difference to me what this woman says, I am quite happy for the Scottish people to go their own way if that is what they wish, and good luck to them.

Time England had a referendum on whether we want to continue supporting Scotland, Wales, and NI financially. Let her have a 2nd referendum with the no campaign refusing to join in, and watch what happens. No more concessions.

It is all talk. Sturgeon is far too intelligent a politician to go for a referendum unless she is absolutely certain she can win it. And, right now, that is not the case.

So why does she (and others) keep banging the drum? Well, there are a number of reasons:

First, it keeps the more militant wing of the SNP happy.

Second, it diverts attention from the rather poor job the SNP are doing in the Scottish government.

Third, it keeps the SNP in campaigning mode which is something they are very good at.

Fourth, it attracts media attention and all publicity is good publicity.

Fifth, it differentiates the SNP from the other parties.

The reason the SNP have so many MPs is because they were able to convert the 45% of Scots who voted Yes into voting for them. The pro-union vote was fragmented between three political parties and, in the FPTP system, a fragmented vote usually loses.

As more fiscal powers flow to Scotland, it is quite clear that the Barnett subsidy is on the way out. It is happening quietly and gradually but it is happening. And the SNP are not at all happy about it because then they will have to choose between raising taxes and/or limiting benefits and that is going to hit their popularity.
