Borodin has money to give for favours. Assange sleeps for free on friends' sofas.

That governments are susceptible to the influence of power and money?

If you are asking, 'are the rich often treated more gently by the authorities, and can they use their wealth to buy special treatment', the answer is 'probably'.

If you are asking whether this is a situation that is unique to Britain, the answer is 'almost certainly not'.

You have bigger criminals in Russia Riiksman, including Vladimir Putin who, according to reports, is worth billions. Pretty surprising considering that he's only on a goverment salary.

And what's the point of acquiring billions, anyway? Who needs all that? And unlike Bill Gates, he doesn't have a charitable foundation that uses his money to do good works around the world.

Last I heard, Borodin had been refused political asylum and the Russians had asked for him to be extradited. This process is still ongoing.

Not exactly different, is it ?

As for buying castles, such is the way of the world, my friend, if you have money, you can buy things.
How many criminals have big houses, flash cars etc ?
How many rich non-criminals have the same ?
The Pound doesn't care who's pocket it resides in, it's still worth the same.

Innocent until proven guilty. Until Borodin goes to trial, we don't know if he is guilty.
