Would it be wise for two young black females to visit one of the smaller villages like Castle Combe on their trip? I was just wondering because I read about them not being welcoming.

I understand the Daily Mail is a joke but many people on the comment section who claimed they are from the countryside agreed with the assertion. I remember reading a blog journal, I cannot remember the blog, where the blogger talked bout going to the countryside with friends and was given mean dirty looks from the townspeople.

I'll look at that link later.

My general feeling is that you should have a great time exploring the English countryside.

I would expect you to have a great time in the countryside (I'm a mixed race Brit), you won't experience any overt racism, though you will notice the significant contrast between the diversity of the larger urban areas, and the virtual absence of diversity in rural areas particularly outside of the Home Counties (the counties surrounding London), which may make you more self conscious. However as a tourist you should find the people as equally friendly and welcoming (if not more so) as those in the cities.

As I always keep telling African Americans here I talk to about the UK, you will be seen as American tourists, not for your skin colour. So go, have fun and take lots of pics! Also, don't read too much into the Daily Fail. Most of it is garbage, barely a step above the National Enquirer.

Villagers can sometimes be wary of outsiders or reluctant to talk to them, but that includes people from other parts of Britain or even from the neighbouring large town or city!

I am absolutely sure you'll be made to feel very very welcome (and, at the risk of sounding racist, possibly even more so than a white American!).

If you get as far as Brighton please come and say hi

BTW we have a famous beach! Our beach in top ten alongside Rio (From The Argus)

Most ''villages'' in England are near diverse large cities anyway.
