I don't know if you have Netflix streaming in the UK but there are so many British shows I have never heard of available on the service. I just starting watching George Gently which I enjoy, even if I don't understand some of the dialogue because of the accent.
Any good shows there that Americans may not be too familiar with that I should watch?
Its an opinion get over it!
Stop insulting me just because I said british shows are crap!
I hate the way people on this site ask for an opinion and then throw insults when they dont like it! Get over it!!!

Inbetweeners. Misfits. Phoneshop. Green Wing. Top Gear.
If you like "George Gently" you might also like "Foyle's War", "Endeavour", "Lewis", "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" ( both the classic one with Jeremy Brett and the very recent one "Sherlock" with Benedict Cumberbatch), "The Hour", "The Bletchley Circle", "Wallander" ( different than the original Swedish Version but still superb with Kenneth Brannagh), "Poirot" "The No 1 Ladie's Detective Agency ( set in Botswana), and "Wycliffe" .
My favourite British comedy show is "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister" ( the original series, the remake is no way near as good) and "Jeeves and Wooster". I also like among others "Lead Balloon", "Drop the Dead Donkey", and "The Thin Blue Line".
For News Comedy try : "Have I got News for you" and ""Mock the Week".
Wonderful documentary series : "Cooking in the Danger Zone" ( not really about food), " Tropic of Cancer", "Tropic of Capricorn","Equator", "Indian Ocean" with Simon Reeve, "Tribe" with Bruce Parry ( anything with Bruce Parry really), Anything with Benedict Allen or Ray Mears. And of course the superlative David Attenborough's Wildlife Documentaries ( over 5 decades of them !)
History : Anything with Simon Schama ( His History of England series is superb but so is anything he makes) or Michael Wood. Both superb Historians and great at getting to the nub of History in a very accessible and often original way too.
