I was amazed by this article. I've read that places like London are heavily camera-monitored so I was not expecting such a difference in border security!

What? Not one word about the millions of illegals who drive or walk or somehow cross the border from Mexico? If the US is so worried about Muslims, why is there no border security at the Mexican border? Do they think these Muslims they are so afraid of are too dumb to just drive in from Mexico?

There is no enforcement at that border, apparently, and that's one reason why we have a nutcase like Trump running for President. He promises to build a wall. And make Mexico pay for it, LOL.

and the TSA failed on 95% of the tests that were run on it - a very expensive security theatre

The UK has the advantage of being an island, so IMO that's got to make control of the borders quite a bit easier.

Contrast that with the U.S. situation. The land borders are very long and quite porous and remote in some spots. Although, if you want to hike across the border in a super remote part of North Dakota, that's actually not easy or simple in practice. Maybe there are drones monitoring those remote areas by now? I couldn't even guess.

The southern border with Mexico is another issue... I believe that most of the migrant routes across the southern border are well-known by now. That's why some human smugglers have gotten very creative with how they get across that border and avoid detection at the same time... There's a certain percentage of those migrants who die during the trek, I'm not sure how many, but the risks there are real.

Is it possible to cross Land Border between USA and Canada at remote areas in Maine or Montana without getting noticed? i think that there is a lot more security at Border between USA and Mexico as compared to the Northern Border.

Of course the Mexican border is more closely monitored that that of Canada. Not too much illegal immigration happens between the US and Canada, although there are legal-entry overstays. Could a person sneak in? Possibly, but all the roads and streets that cross into Canada are security-enabled with equipment and personnel. In more rural areas, the US-Canadian border is separated by a strip of tree-denuded forest in most places. It's very strange. You can watch this video to understand the weirdness:

Thing about border security is that a great many of the bad guys - whether from a security perspective or economic migrants - are not generally sneaking in over the land border (or the sea border in the case of the UK). They tend to come in legally with plausible cover stories either on vacation or as students and then simply disappear into the black economy. In 2015 alone, there were 500,000 overstays in the USA.

The UK estimates it has between 750,000 - 1,000,000 illegal immigrants. That is around 1.58% of the population at the high end. The estimate in the USA is somewhere around 11 million illegal immigrants or around 3.43% of population. So the raw numbers suggest that the USA does a poorer job around border security.

There is one more difference between illegals living in the UK and those in the USA. In UK, illegals may be failed asylum seekers and they become illegal when all their appeals are exhausted. In USA, illegals just continue working illegally. They do not even try to get asylum or become legalised.
Deportation process should be made easier and quick. This will help in reducing the illegal immigration problem.
