Is there anything in Hartlepool of interest to tourists besides Capp's statue?

I think anywhere in the UK is worth visiting, it's a great place with a lot of history. And the people are nice. Andy Capp is one of my favorite cartoons.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that!

My travels have not taken me to Hartlepool, though I did have an office further up the country at one point.

I used to stay in this lovely place;

Lumley Castle - Unique Hotel in County Durham, near Newcastle, Sunderland, North East Accommodation, Wedding Venue County Durham near Newcastle

I saw on Wikipedia that Hartlepool has gone upscale since Capp's (or his creator Reg Smythe's) life.

I did hear from someone who lived nearby that they had created a new marina which was somewhat upscale for area.

Sure go see the "monkey hangers", it's ok for a visit, but more than one day and you'd be stretching it but there's plenty of other places in close proximity too.

Lumley has the Elizabethan Banquet, which is always a fun night and good for a laugh too and it's only a 30 minute drive to Hartlepool, in fact it's around a 30 minute drive to everywhere in the North East unless you're heading up to Alnwick (although I have made Morpeth from Peterlee in around 35 minutes avoiding the Tyne Tunnel, but best not talk about that).

That Lumely Castle looks wonderful. What an interesting place to stay. I would go to the Elizabethan Banquet.

In all the times I stayed there, I never once went to one of those banquets.

It was a lovely place to stay though, and Durham's cricket ground is very close by these days.

I've driven through, looking for a somewhere to take a pee but decided to keep going.
