Going next week to look for a home for the next 2 years!
Trying to figure out schools is difficult- can anyone recommend a family friendly place for a 2 year stretch where we'll be able to make the most of the experience but also have some ties to home...ie an American community presence...
Want to be West/ Southwest of London
We are very keen on Guildford...
Any other ideas?
The school thing is wearing us out...maybe we should just plop ourselves down in a town that comes recommended and hope for the best...
Our family moved to London from California just about 18 mos ago. One son had just graduated from HS and one finished his Sophmore year. Since we plan to be here some length of time, we opted to allow our younger son to finish schooling through the British system. Due to his academic achievements, he went directly into A-level studies and will enter university here.
Prior to coming, we thought through the schooling options and, like you, found it quite wearing. Our situation is simpler than yours, considering you are planning to be here two years. Continuing in the American system here can be done through a few schools you have likely already discovered.
If you want to discuss anything in detail, feel free to write me and my wife at drmcmasters at gmail dot com. We'll do what we can to assist.
Guilford is a nice place to live. We've been there several times and find it a lovely area. We aren't knowledgeable about the schools there, but have contacts that are.
American communities? There are pockets of communities, depending on the level of corporate/military/govt presence in particular areas. We are still finding our way around with regards to that question. Recently, we went to a BBQ place to watch the Super Bowl and found ourselves surrounded by more familiar accents.
